Just back from a fantastic safari in Maswa Game Reserve and Southern Serengeti. Rains – late for the short rains, or early for the long rains – had turned Maswa into an emerald green park-like landscape.
And of course this pulled in tons of wildebeest. So what a rare privilege to be able to walk in amongst the wildebeest migration in Maswa Game Reserve. And also a great privilege to have guests on safari who were so up for it, who in fact asked constantly if we couldn’t rather be walking than driving.
The wildebeest are calving at this time of year so we were able to witness two births…one calf survived and the other died. We found a pangolin (will upload YouTube video soon).
Saw our lions, elephant (will upload video) and all the rest.
The last two days saw some rather heavy rain and ended up in a desperate dash across the short grass plains through a sea of mud with the tractor following us armed with ropes, chains, shovels and all manner of tools.
But we made it without getting stuck.
