WOOOSHHHH …. that’s the sound a safari year makes as it disappears into the past. it was a good year mind, a good year of new and old friends on safari.
‘Safari’ – even after all these years that word still conjurs up such strong feelings of nostalgia, history, excitement, new exciting encounters and wonderful wild places. And I continue to be thankful that there are people who still value and love what a safari is really meant to be. Im including other guides; the outfitters who provide the selected camps; and of course the guests … all of you who choose to come on safari with me and Ker and Downey because you know what a real safari is meant to be. It’s really difficult at times to explain what a proper timeless private safari is, but all of you who chose to come with us and who loved your experience, are testament that some people “just get it”. Three of you on seperate safaris this year told me that it was a life changing experience, and that comment is honestly what makes it all so moving and worthwhile.
So thank you everyone and please TELL YOUR FRIENDS AND COLLEAGUES! My marketting is, as you know, almost entirely by word of mouth. So spread the word.
This year I am embarking on a few new ventures in addition to my current safaris with Ker and Downey (Legendary Adventures) in Tanzania. On almost every safari people express an interest in the same two places:
1) Everyone asks about Victoria Falls. I have thus decided to offer a safari that goes there. I lived and worked in Zambia for over ten years and feel a very strong commitment to the country. So I decided to use the Zambian side of the Falls rather than Zimbabwe. Also I used to have a camp in the Luangwa Valley in Zambia so I have included this venue for a total Zambia Safari. The Luangwa Valley is a super safari destination where one can still find small exclusive camps. almost any guide who has worked in Luangwa Valley will tell you that it is in his top few of wild places. On my main website, have a look under Destinations to see the itinerary I have put together with one of that countries best outfitters.
2) The Wine Route, The Winelands, The Cape, Cape Town — everyone asks about it. There is another outfitter down in the Cape that I have a good relationship with and who are known for providing very good exclusive bespoke itineraries. So together we have made a great trip for South Africa. In order to make it even better I have included Rovos Rail on the itinerary. Rovos Rail is a refurbished old train similar to the Orient Express. So the journey starts in Johannesburg and does a luxury train journey to the reach Cape Winelands. Please! Someone come on one of these … quickly. It is the ultimate in luxury all the way with some spectacular properties in the Cape…. and wine tasting … with a designated driver! Have a look on the main website under itineraries to see the itinerary and photos.
In order to cope with the great increase in safaris that I envisage, I have cajoled two other guides to join me! I have worked with Dom Lever for well over twenty years and with Paul Olivier for over ten years. We know we work very well together. We have done literally hundreds of safaris together and I asked them both to work with me because i know them to be exactly the kind of person I would like to have as my guide on any safari. Have a look at my main website and look at “The Guides” to see their biographies.
Finally, I am planning on being in the USA in January.
I will be in New York and Connecticut area from Wednesday 8 January and fly out on Thursday 16 January.
And then in Houston area from Thursday 16 January until Monday 27 January.
So if anyone in those two areas wishes to meet up please let me know. The purpose of my visit is to do some marketting and hopefully sell a bunch of safaris. So if anyone has friends who are interested, then please tell me and I can arrange to meet them. I will have a short powerpoint presentation to show people. Also any of you who have already booked a safari for 2014 0r 2015 who wish to meet lets arrange a date. Use my firstname.lastname@example.org address because its easy to access no matter where I am.
Thank you for a wonderful season, I hope to see some of you in the USA in January and on safari in the not too distant future.
